Shaftesbury Stories

London’s West End is currently shut down. At the moment, we cannot share live theatre with our audiences. We understand that everyone will be finding this period difficult for many different reasons. We regret that we cannot share the joy of & JULIET on our stage, but we’d love to stay connected with our audiences in other ways…

Shaftesbury Stories

On this section of our website, you’ll find links to the story of our Theatre’s history, which will be posted a decade at a time every Thursday. You’ll also find details of how you can send in your stories of any time you’ve spent at the Shaftesbury Theatre, and interviews with previous performers and current staff members at the Theatre.

We will be adding more and more content every week, so check back regularly! You can also follow us on Twitter @Shaftesbury1911 for the latest updates and extra content.

Call-Out to Audiences

We’d love to hear from you!

Do you remember the first time you visited the Shaftesbury Theatre? Perhaps you’re a regular at one of our shows and know all of our FOH team by name? Have you ever performed on our stage – maybe as a member of a stage school or as one of our wonderful companies?

Tweet or email us (feedback@shaftesburytheatre.com) with your stories about the Shaftesbury Theatre, tagging #ShaftesburyStories.

Your Stories and Ours

As part of an ongoing project, we have been conducting research into the history of the Shaftesbury. This research has been kindly aided by the Theatre and Performance Collection at the V&A Museum.

We will be updating this section of Shaftesbury Stories every Thursday from the 9th April. Starting with 1911 – 1920, we’ll be posting the story of each decade from the Theatre’s very beginnings to it’s modern day.

If you have any inside knowledge about the story that we’re telling, please do get in touch with us via social media or on feedback@shaftesburytheatre.com.

We will also be updating this section with interviews. We’ll be speaking to performers who have previously worked at the Theatre, members of staff and others who have played a role in our story. Click on the links on the right to read the interviews as they are posted weekly.
