Information for Visitors Attending Open House 2020

We’re very excited to welcome everyone attending our Open House event on Saturday 19th September. If you are attending, please read this information carefully to understand how the tours will be set up, and how we plan to keep you and our staff safe.

Thank you for booking to attend a tour of the Shaftesbury Theatre. It is important that if you feel unwell on the day, especially if you have a cough or a high temperature, you do not attend the Open House event.

Tours are scheduled to depart every half an hour from the Shaftesbury Theatre foyer. It is important that you arrive for your tour no more than 10 minutes before it starts. This is to avoid overcrowding in the foyer. There will be signs indicating where you can queue outside the building. The entrance we will be using will be on the Shaftesbury Avenue side of the building, just up from the main doors.

From the moment you enter the building please ensure you are wearing a mask or face covering over your mouth and nose, unless you have a medical reason not to do so. We reserve the right to ask you to put a mask on or ask you to leave the building if you do not.

When you enter the foyer, your temperature will be taken by one of our stewards. If your temperature is above 37.5 degrees you may be asked to leave the building. We may also check your bags on entry. We would advise you to only bring bags and coats that you are happy to carry with you around the building.

Your tour guide will let you know when the tour is about to begin. Tour guides and stewards will all be wearing blue lanyards. The tour route has been planned out in a way that means it is possible to distance yourself from people not in your household.

Your tour should last between 45 minutes and one hour. Most areas of the Shaftesbury Theatre are accessible by flights of stairs only, and you should expect to climb several flights of stairs during the tour.

Please remember that everyone who will be working at the Theatre on the day is there as a volunteer. We will do our best to make this a safe and pleasant environment for everyone, and we appreciate your help in this. If you have any questions, please get in touch with us at info@shaftesburytheatre.com

The Shaftesbury Theatre is taking part in Open House London 2020!

After being closed since March, we’re opening up for just one day only on Saturday 19th September. We’ll be taking groups of up to 15 people around the building, showing you behind the scenes and letting you know about the 109 year history of our amazing building. We will also be able to show you the progress of our Dramatic Transformation Project, as we bring the Shaftesbury Theatre into the 21st Century.

Please bear in mind that all tour participants must wear masks. We will not be providing masks so please bring these yourselves. When you book onto a tour, you will need to provide contact details. More information about the tours will be provided to you before the event. We will be taking temperatures of visitors upon entry. We reserve the right to refuse you entrance to the Theatre if you have a temperature above 37.5 degrees.

These tours are free but numbers are very limited. Tours will not be restricted to households only, but we will be asking everyone who participates to keep their distance from each other. There will be hand sanitizer provided.

If you have specific access needs, please get in touch with us at feedback@shaftesburytheatre.com. The Shaftesbury Theatre is an old building with restricted access in most areas. All tours will involve several flights of stairs.
