We offer apprenticeships across our Stage, Electrics, Front of House, and Box Office departments. For Stage and Electrics apprentices, the hands-on learning will be invaluable and will allow students to learn practical skills while also obtaining vital qualifications through coursework and exams. For those working in our Front of House and Box Office environments, they will learn how to assist customers and get to grips with key operational processes.
As well as offering opportunities to young people, apprenticeships enrich the Shaftesbury and make it a more vibrant and varied workplace. We see not only what we can provide for apprentices, but what apprentices can do for our Theatre. They are involved in all aspects of life at the Shaftesbury, including social events and all-staff meetings. This gives our apprentices a well-rounded understanding of the world of work along with all its benefits and challenges.
To understand more about the apprenticeship process, we spoke to our Assistant Electrician, who joined the Shaftesbury 5 years ago as an apprentice before progressing onto a full time role in the Electrics department:
“I joined the Shaftesbury Theatre as an apprentice 5 years ago to learn new skills. Working with a vast array of people and learning on the job has allowed me to make many valuable connections for future career progression. After successfully completing my apprenticeship, I gained a full-time role as an Assistant Electrician at the Shaftesbury Theatre. Now, I am fully integrated into the team and am gaining more qualifications and experience as I progress. I would recommend an apprenticeship to anyone who is keen to learn and work hard.“
The apprenticeship programme takes 12 months to complete, and requires time to be spent on both practical work in the Theatre and coursework.
