Completed in Spring 2023, award-winning Princes Circus is part of Camden Council’s ongoing efforts to create greener, safer, and more welcoming urban spaces. Filled with new plants, established trees, and bench seating, it makes for an inviting stop for residents and tourists, as well as improving walking connections in the West End.
Collaborating with LDA Design, the project envisioned Princes Circus as a spacious, pedestrian-friendly zone within bustling Central London. Addressing long-standing issues like traffic congestion and poor air quality, the feedback from residents, businesses, and local interest groups were incorporated in the planning of the space. On their forward-thinking design, Sophie Thompson, Director at LDA Design, said “The ambition is to transform the streets and public realm of Holborn to create a truly liveable neighbourhood – one which supports healthier lifestyles, more active and sustainable travel, thriving communities and sustainable growth.”
Princes Circus is the largest outdoor space adjacent to any theatre in the West End. Lined with independent cafes and eateries, it is a buzzing congregation point, alive with chatter and excitement.
The Shaftesbury’s on-site café, Box Office Brew, also offers the perfect setting to mingle and indulge in quality food and artisanal coffee, with exclusive seating on Princes Circus for those using the café.
Currently playing at the Shaftesbury Theatre is the hit comedy musical Mrs. Doubtfire.
Whether patrons are meeting up pre-show or savouring a cup of Box Office Brew’s coffee at one of our outdoor tables, Princes Circus offers an exceptional space for everyone to enjoy and we’re delighted to have it finished for our audiences.
